The invention relates to a method for preparing a high dry substance SteinHall adhesive, comprising the steps preparing a carrier portion bygelatinising at least a part of the total starch in the adhesive in analkaline medium, diluting the carrier portion with a volume of water; andadding the remaining secundary starch in which in a first step said carrierportion is prepared, in a second step the carrier portion is diluted with avolume of water, followed by the addition of at least a portion of thesecundary starch, and in a third step the remaining alkali is added in adiluted form together with the secundary starch. The addition of the remainingsecundary starch and alkali is preferably performed stepwise.
