A computer system (204) with an appropriate set of instructions to allow thecomputer system to serve as a translation device (figure 5) for use in astructured interview between an interviewer using a first language (404) andan interviewee in a second language (408) in order to minimize or eliminatethat need for a human translator during the acquisition or routineinformation. Problems addressed include: determination of the appropriatelanguage for use as the second language, the use of a single display screen(400) through the use of a toggle function (604) to toggle from the firstlanguage (404) to the second language (408), delivery of context sensitiveaudio files while controlling the number of screens to be created andpresented to the interviewer, and the creation of a set of dischargeinstructions.
