The invention relates to a method for enriching tumor cells of a body fluid, in which a cell-separating medium having a specific density is covered with a layer of the body fluid and centrifuged. It is then determined whether the enriched cells express an epithelial marker, e.g. a cytokeratin. Also disclosed is a kit that is suitable for carrying out said method.
