The present invention is a method and system for simulating fluid flow in a cavity, having relevance to the modeling of viscous flows within thin cavities of complex shapes in which heat exchange with the cavity walls may be a governing factor, as in injection molding of plastic parts. Sampling points are spread through a cavity (310) and quasi- Voronoi macrocells are constructed around nodes (330). Shape functions are calculated for macrocells and interface regions (342). Layers are defined to contain equal volumes (346), and equations are assigned for temperature and velocity profiles with coefficients derived from shape functions (350). The equations are simulated to simulate flow (360).
