the invention relates to a method for producing viable tetraploid bivalve molluscs, by fertilising diploid female ovocytes with tetraploid male sperm, followed by induction of retention of the second polar body of the fertilised eggs and isolation from the larvae produced of a larval sub-population enriched in tetraploids and selective raising of said sub-population.
