TANNIN-BASE ADHESIVE, WOODY COMPOSITE MATERIAL MADE BY USING THE SAME, AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF THE COMPOSITE MATERIAL

The invention provides a tannin-base adhesive which exhibits high strength and high water resistance and does not generate any harmful volatile substance; woody composite materials made by using the adhesive and exhibiting excellent practical strength; and a process for production of the composite materials. A tannin-base adhesive obtained by blending a mixture of tannin or a modified tannin with a crosslinking or curing agent with at least one member selected from among hydrocarbon wax, surfactants, and resol-type phenol resin; a woody composite material composed of plural woody molding materials which are bonded to each other with the adhesive; and a process for the production of the woody composite material which comprises incorporating woody molding materials with the tannin-base adhesive to form a woody mat, hot-pressing the mat while making high-temperature steam permeate the mat, and thus curing the adhesive to form a woody composite material.
