The present invention provides methods for performing a location update in a mobile communication network. According to an embodiment of the invention, after receiving a location update request message from a SGSN, a HLR composes a location update acknowledge message including information about an identification of a MSC/VLR. Then the HLR transmits the location update acknowledge message including information about the identification of the MSC/VLR to the SGSN. According to another embodiment, after receiving a SGSN Context Request message from a second SGSN (new SGSN), a first SGSN (old SGSN) composes a SGSN Context Response message including information about an identification of a MSC/VLR. Then the first SGSN transmits the message including the information about the identification of the MSC/VLR to the second SGSN. Further, the present invention also relates to respective devices.
