The medical appliance comprises, on the one hand, an immobilization device (2), for example in the form of a patient support (3) with securing straps (4), designed to hold a patient in a stable supine position and to permit access through the perineum by means of biopsy needles for collecting tissue samples from the prostate gland, and, on the other hand, a positioning device (1) with a support (7) that can be adjusted to any desired position, for example a perforated plate for the biopsy needles.
