The invention relates to a method and device for charging charge reversing and discharging aerosol particles by means of ions, in particular for charge reversing gas supported particles in the bipolar charge state, such as occurs in pure Fuchs-model diffusion charging, using a high-frequency plasma in combination with an oscillating current. The invention further relates to the use of the device for neutralising surface charges, the generation of a 'synthetic jet' and the generation of noise.
