The invention relates to a method for producing compounds of the general formula (I), where R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 , R6, R7, R8 can be, independently of one another, hydrogen, optionally substituted C1-C10-alkyl, C6-C10-aryl, C1-C10-alkoxy, C6-C10-aryloxy, C2-C10-acyloxy, carboxy, C2-C10-carboxyalkyl, carbamido, C2-C10-carbamidomonoalkyl and C3-C20-carbamidodialkyl; R1, R2, R3 can also be cyano; and R2 and R3 can be bonded into a 4 to 8-member aliphatic ring, by dehydrogenating compounds of the general formula (II), where R1 to R8 have the meaning given above, in a liquid phase in the presence of an oxidizing agent and a homogenous catalyst comprising a transition metal of groups 8 to 11 of the periodic system of elements, optionally in the presence of a solvent and optionally additional additives.
