The invention relates to an ultrasonic testing method for a weld seam (11) of a welded turbine rotor (1). An ultrasonic transmitter (21) and an ultrasonic transceiver (23) are moved in symmetry to the turbine rotor axis (3) on the turbine rotor surface (5), the weld seam (11) being the mirror for the ultrasonic signal (25). The inventive testing method allows detection of structural defects and a dimensional evaluation of such a defect.
