IMPROVED PIPETTOR AND EXTERNALLY SEALED PIPETTE TIPS

An automated pistonless pipettor (100) uses self-aligning pipette tips (130) slidingly and sealingly received in the holes (120) of a pipette block (118). A motor (110) displaces the pipette block (118) with respect to the tips (130) held in locking plate (140) to increase and decrease the effective pipette volumes, allowing aspiration and dispensing in a precise, accurate and predictable manner. Seals may be integral to the tips (130) or seated in grooves in either the tips (130) or block (118).
