MULTIFUNCTIONAL NATURAL MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING MULTIFUNCTIONAL NATURAL MATERIAL

A multifunctional natural material has vetiver roots from which volatile components can be removed and fragrance components have been removed. As a pretreatment, vetiver roots are washed with water and dried in the sun for one to two days, followed by drying in the shade for about one week in a well-ventilated place. Then, fragrance components are removed from the vetiver roots over a long period of time of 12 to 30 hours by steam distillation at a steam pressure of 4 to 5 bar. The vetiver roots from which fragrance components have been removed are dried with hot air at 27 to 60°C thereby to remove water therefrom. Then, dried vetiver roots are cut into pieces with a length of, for example, 1 to 30 cm, and the cut vetiver roots are put in a breathable container, nonwoven cloth or the like thereby to become a deodorant or a pest repellent according to the intended use.
