A method for analyzing the torsional vibration of a power transmission system by calculating the absolute damping coefficient of a cylinder portion and the relative damping coefficient between cylinders corresponding to a real engine and thereby causing the torsional vibration analysis of the power transmission system to reflect the calculated coefficients is disclosed. An analyzing device, an analyzing program, and a shafting device between the engine and the driven device are also disclosed. The system from an engine to the driven device is modeled into an inertial mass-spring system. The total damping energy, which is the vibration generating energy, balancing the vibration generating energy with the damping energy for a set of resonance points of the natural modes/frequencies is calculated from the measured damping ratio and the calculated mode mass. The total damping energy is expressed by the sum of the absolute and relative damping energies of the engine and the damping energy of an attachment of the driven device/shafting system. Engine absolute damping coefficients and equations of the engine absolute damping coefficients are generated from the result of the measurement of the resonance points to solve the simultaneous equations. Thus, the engine absolute and relative damping coefficients are determined.
