Disclosed are: a low-molecular-weight compound for use in the analysis or purification of a protein; and a matrix having the low-molecular-weight compound immobilized thereon. Specifically disclosed are: a thiazole derivative which is useful for the analysis or purification of a protein and is represented by general formula (1) [wherein R1 and R2 independently represent a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R3 represents a phthalimide group, an amino group or an ammonium sa Ar represents an optionally substituted aromatic group; and n represents an integer of 1 to 12]; and a matrix having a thiazole derivative immobilized thereon, which is produced by using the above-mentioned thiazole derivative and is represented by general formula (6) [wherein R1 and R2 independently represent a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; Ar represents an optionally substituted aromatic group; n represents an integer of 1 to 12; and M represents a matrix].
