A system and method for media delivery are provided. The system includes at least one content delivery network node, and the node includes a management unit and a POP (Point of Present) unit. The management unit manages the distribution of the media content and receives request for the media content, and the POP unit stores the media content distributed and delivers the media content to the user terminals. The method includes: determining whether the content delivery network node has the media content requested by the user terminals; if so, delivering the hot films to the user terminals by the media stream server, or accessing the shared memory via the media stream server and delivering the cold films to the user terminals by the shared memory; if not, feeding no requested media content back to the user terminals and ending the process. A resource renew method for media delivery system is also provided, which includes: making statistics of the hot films of the node according to the request amount of the media content in each media stream server, and renewing the hot films in each media stream server. The system and method relieve the accessing pressure of the shared memory and achieve reasonable scheduling and high efficiency.
