The present invention relates to a method for determining functional integrity of a blood platelet containing sample based on relating the baseline amount of a marker of platelet function to the amount of a marker of platelet function after bringing said marker into solution, and comparing the thus obtained value to a reference. Moreover, the invention relates to a method for quality control of a blood platelet containing sample. Further encompassed by the present invention are kits and devices for carrying out the methods of the present invention.
