Use of 2-iodo-N-[(4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)carbamoyl]benzene sulfonamides and/or salts of 2-iodo-N-[(4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)carbamoyl]benzene sulfonamides (I) to selectively combat unwanted plant growth (a) in pre-emergence in cultural plants e.g. oats, rye, triticale or Sorghumand (b) in post-emergence in cultural plants e.g. barley, oats, rye, triticale or potato, where the culture comprises summer form, winter form and genetically or mutagenically changed sorts, and (c) in non-cultivated land and plant culture, is claimed. Use of 2-iodo-N-[(4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)carbamoyl]benzene sulfonamides and/or salts of 2-iodo-N-[(4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)carbamoyl]benzene sulfonamides of formula (I) to selectively combat unwanted plant growth (a) in pre-emergence in cultural plants like wheat (hard wheat and soft wheat), corn, soya bean, sugar beet, sugarcane, rice, cotton, bean, peas, flax, barley, oats, rye, triticale, potato or Sorghumand (b) in post-emergence in cultural plants like barley, oats, rye, triticale, potato, horse bean, flax, grassland/lawns, where the culture comprises summer form, winter form and genetically or mutagenically changed sorts, and (c) in non-cultivated land and plant culture, is claimed. M +a cation, which is an ion of the alkali metal (preferably Li, Na or K), alkaline earth metal (preferably Ca or Mg), transition metal ion (preferably Mn, Cu or Fe), ammonium ion (in which optionally 1-4 H is substituted by (1-4C)-alkyl, hydroxy-(1-4C)-alkyl, (3-6C)-cycloalkyl, (1-4C)-alkoxy(1-4C)-alkyl, hydroxy-(1-4C)-alkoxy-(1-4C)-alkyl, (1-6C)-mercaptoalkyl, phenyl or benzyl, all optionally substituted by one or more halo, preferably F, Cl, Br or I, NO 2, CN, azido, (1-6C)-alkyl, (1-6C)-haloalkyl, (3-6C)-cycloalkyl, (1-6C)-alkoxy, (1-6C)-haloalkoxy or phenyl, where two substituents with N optionally forms an optionally substituted ring), phosphonium ion, sulfonium ion (preferably tri-(1-4C)-alkyl-sulfonium), oxonium ion (preferably tri-(1-4C)-alkyl-oxonium), or optionally saturated/aromatic nitrogen containing heterocyclic ring system with 1-10C-ionic compound (which is optionally one or more times annealed and/or substituted by (1-4C)-alkyl).
