A refiner assembly (100) comprises a refiner plate carrier (110; 252; 372; 406; 552), and at least one refiner plate segment (250; 370; 408; 554) comprising a top surface for refining lignocellulosic material and a bottom surface adjacent the refiner plate carrier (110; 252; 372; 406; 552).
