An IPTV capable of automatically setting a channel and a method thereof are provided to collect RSS(Really Simple Syndication) data or ATOM data periodically and generate the data in a format necessary for channel programming, thereby automatically setting an unlimited number of channels. A channel information generating unit(160) converts summary information of a plurality of web contents provided through the internet into channel information required for channel programming. The channel number is assigned to each of a plurality of web contents. A storage unit(120) stores the assigned channel number and the generated channel information. An input unit(110) receives an automatic channel setting command. When the automatic channel setting command is inputted, a display unit displays the assigned channel number and channel information.
