REGION BASED IMAGE RETRIEVAL METHOD USING REGION FILTERING

A region based image retrieval method using region filtering is provided to reduce image retrieval time by performing query region based region filtering. A query generating unit generates an initial query from a sample image received from a user(S110), and a distance calculating unit calculates the distance between a query point about each region which constitutes a sample image and an image which is stored at a database by using a distance function(S120). An image returning unit returns K images to a user in a low sequence concerned with the calculated distance values(S130). An adoptability receiving unit is informed from a user whether or not the K images are proper(S140), and a region class unit constitutes an initial region class by using each region which constitutes a proper image(S150). An initial query calculating unit determines an optimized class layer structure and calculates a new query point for each region(S160). An updating weight value calculating unit calculates an updated weight value for each region(S170), and an update query generating unit generates an updated query by using the initial query point and the updated weight value. A region filtering unit filters only regions, which exist in a query region, by performing a region filtering operation(S190).
