An IPTV receiver and a resource acquisition method for an IPTV service are provided to quickly and exactly update information on the IPTV service, thereby efficiently managing information on the IPTV service. A service provider(410) is connected through a network. An IPTV service record including a resource locator element is received. The resource locator element displays a location of a resource. The received IPTV service record is parsed to calculate a child element included in the resource locator element. The child element is one of an element including inline media information for obtaining an inline encoded resource, an element including media URL information for obtaining a file transmitted by an HTTP server, and an element including flute file information for obtaining a file transmitted through a flute protocol.
