A surface texture mapping system by sample texture synthesis is provided to perform texture mapping which an artist intends without UV map correction and texture painting work, thereby improving the quality of a texture mapping result. A UV map uniformizing unit(100) calculates a uniform UV map from a surface model and a UV map which a user inputs. A mapping direction vector field generator(200) performs interpolation based on a vector field which the user inputs. A UV map boundary controller(300) manages modified UV map information produced while the UV map uniformizing is performed. A texture combiner(400) synthesizes a texture based on the result of the UV map uniformizing unit and the mapping direction vector field generator by using uses a texture sample which the user inputs. The texture combiner produces a surface model of which the texture is mapped according the mapping result.
