FAST VERTICAL HANDOFF METHOD IN HIERARCHICAL MOBILE IPV6 USING MEDIA INDEPENDENT HANDOVER

A fast vertical handover method using the MIH in an HMIP-based heterogeneous network is provided to reduce the MAP discovery time of a network which is adjacent to a FVH-HMIPv6-based heterogeneous network. The first MIIS signal for requesting L2 and L3 layer information about an MAP of a heterogeneous network positioned in the neighborhood is transmitted to the currently connected first network(S302). The second MIIS signal including the L2 and L3 layer information about the MAP of each neighboring heterogeneous network is received. If a subnet change situation to the heterogeneous network is sensed, the L2 layer trigger is performed. Therefore, the MAP of a heterogeneous network to which a terminal is handed over is determined by using the L2 layer(S305).
