A security module authenticating a mobile storage medium and an operation method of the security module are provided to authenticate the mobile storage medium and encrypt transceiving data with the mobile storage medium, thereby strengthening the security of data recorded on a computer terminal. In case a mobile storage medium is connected to a computer terminal, a device driver corresponding to the mobile storage medium is loaded on an operating system(201). Authentication information for access to the mobile storage medium is received from a user(202). The validity of the authentication information inputted from the user is judged(203). In case the authentication information is effective, predetermined data recorded on the computer terminal is encoded and the encoded data is transmitted to the mobile storage medium, or the predetermined data are received from the mobile storage medium and the received data is decoded(204,205).
