A COMPOSITION COMPRISING SHIKONIN ISOLATED FROM AN EXTRACT OF LITHOSPERMUM ERYTHRORHIZON FOR PREVENTING OR TREATING OBESITY

A composition containing shikonin which is isolated from Lithospermum erythrorhizon extract is provided to suppress the formation of adipose and induce apoptosis. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating obesity comprises 0.1~50 weight% shikonin which is isolated from Lithospermum erythrorhizon extract as an active ingredient. The Lithospermum erythrorhizon extract is isolated using water, ethanol, methanol, butanol, or their mixture solvent. The Lithospermum erythrorhizon extract is obtained by pulverizing the Lithospermum erythrorhizon, maintaining at -20°C, and performing ultrasonication for one hour.
