An inferior insulator detecting device for a power distribution line is provided to detect inferior insulators easily regardless of the shape or standards of the insulators by photographing the insulators together with surroundings thereof. A control part(130) has an A/D converter connected to a potentiometer(110), a photographing unit(133) for photographing an insulator together with surroundings thereof and having zooming and directing function, and a display part(134) connected to the photographing unit for displaying photographed images. A CPU operates signals input from the A/D converter, the photographing unit and an input unit. A storing element stores operated voltage values of the insulator, the displayed images, and checking items input via the input unit.
