An AC light emitting device is provided to prevent the generation of flicker effect by using a long persistent phosphorescence substance. An AC light emitting device(1) includes a light emitting diode chip, a transparent member and a long persistent phosphorescence substance. The light emitting diode chip(3) includes a plurality of light emitting cells electrically connected with each other through a metal line on a single substrate. The transparent member(5) is used for covering the light emitting diode chip. The long persistent phosphorescence substance(7) is excited by the light emitted from the light emitting diode chip and emits the light of visible ray range. The long persistent phosphorescence substance is distributed in a portion between the light emitting diode chip and the transparent member or in the transparent member.
