PURPOSE: A motion adaptive spatial-temporal deinterlacing method is provided to improve the quality of picture by clearly representing a horizontal boundary line in a display device such as a large PDP(Plasma Display Panel). CONSTITUTION: An interlaced scan type image is inputted to a deinterlacing unit(S10). Differences in pixel values are obtained between fields related to pixels around a pixel to be interpolated(S21). The maximum pixel difference is decided as a motion value(S23). It is judged whether the motion value exceeds a threshold(S25). If so, a median filter filters information related to the detected movement through post-processing(S31). If not, the median filter filters the information related to the detected movement through post-processing(S33). A pixel value of the pixel to be interpolated is adaptively interpolated according to the information of the detected movement through temporally axial filtering or spatially axial filtering(S41-S43). A progressive scan type image is output(S50).
