An apparatus for recognizing a pattern based on the DNA computing technology is provided to shorten the time required for recognizing the pattern through the massive parallel-processing. A population block(30) receives and loads a training pattern and random mask pattern from a training pattern RAM and mask pattern RAM. A hamming distance calculation block compares a test pattern and the training pattern by using the random mask pattern. A data accumulation block(40) adds the number of patterns which are matched after the comparison. A characteristic decision block(50) compares the matched number for each digit for two clocks, and generates a class for the number matched with the test pattern.
