The method involves determining an object in a region of a surrounding of a vehicle e.g. passenger car, by imaging the region of the surrounding of the vehicle. The object is classified by a classification process (16a) for classification of traffic signs to produce a classification result. The object is classified in dependence of the classification process and/or the classification result, by another different classification process (16b). A concrete traffic sign is determined as classification result, and information about the determined traffic sign is output. An independent claim is also included for a device for classification of a traffic sign, comprising a camera system.
