The device (1) has a crashbox (3) for absorption of energy. A fixing device fixes the crashbox at a body part of a motor vehicle (9), and includes a joint (13) formed as a bore joint. The fixing device has a fastening plate (5) with a collar (15) that is arranged adjacent to a side of the crashbox. The crashbox is firmly attached to the fastening plate by the joint. The crashbox is rectangular in shape, and is conically arranged. The crashbox includes a surface optimized for absorption of crash energy, and is formed with circulating slots.
