The steering (30) has a servo-drive with an electric motor i.e. synchronous motor (32), that includes a set of phase windings (36). An electronic controller (34) controls the electric motor, where the phase windings of the electric motor are controlled with the controller. A switching unit i.e. metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (38), is attached to one of the phase windings. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for operating a power steering (2) a computer program product with a program code unit for performing a method for operating a power steering.
