To secure the load in a vehicle luggage compartment, a base plate has a number of perforations (10,10a,10b). There is a pressure difference between the upper (6) and lower (8) sides of the plate. The pressure difference system (12) has a vacuum store (16) with a bundled connection (20) to the plate, to deliver an underpressure according to the weight of the load. The pressure difference system and/or the vacuum store are linked to a control unit (26).
