The method involves recovering a volume level of audio signals corresponding to another volume level that lastly utilizes the audio signals, after the activation of output of the former volume level and before previous-deactivation of output of the latter volume level. A volume level of sound having a relatively low output value is continuously increased over an adjustable delay period of 5 seconds. A zero value of the volume level is selected as the output value. An average value is selected as a value for the recovered volume level. An independent claim is also included for an audio system for a motor vehicle.
