The engine has a housing (12) with two pistons that are supported in a piston cage (30) in a slidable manner. A gas inlet opening (58) is provided in the housing for inputting gas into a working chamber. An opening (70) is provided in the piston cage and passes into the working chamber. The opening partially overlaps the gas inlet opening in an azimuthal angle region during rotation of the piston cage around a rotation axis (28). A control element (86) is position adjustable in order to change dimension, initial angle and/or end angle of the azimuthal angle region.
