Use of comb polymer comprising polyolefin-based macro-monomer derived from repeating units and repeating units derived from low molecular monomers comprising e.g. styrene monomer, to reduce the fuel consumption in motor vehicles

Use of comb polymer comprising main chain repeating units, which are derived from polyolefin-based macro-monomers, and repeating units derived from low molecular monomers comprising styrene monomer, alkyl(meth)acrylates, vinyl esters, vinyl ethers, (di)alkyl fumarates and/or (di)alkyl maleates, for the reduction of fuel consumption in vehicles, is claimed. Use of comb polymer comprising: main chain repeating units, which are derived from polyolefin-based macro-monomers; and repeating units derived from low molecular monomers comprising styrene monomer with 8-17 carbon atoms, alkyl(meth)acrylates with 1-10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, vinyl esters with 1-11 carbon atoms in the acyl group, vinyl ethers with 1-10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, (di)alkyl fumarates with 1-10 carbon atoms in the alcohol groups and/or (di)alkyl maleates with 1-10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, where the molar branching degree of comb polymer is 0.1-10 mol.% and the amount of comb polymer is at least 80 wt.%, for reducing the fuel consumption in vehicles, is claimed. Independent claims are included for: (1) the comb polymer exhibiting molar branching degree of 0.3-1.1% and containing 8-30 wt.% of repeating units, which are derived from polyolefin-based macro-monomers; (2) preparing comb polymer, comprising copolymerizing the macro-monomers and low-molecular monomers; and (3) a lubricating oil formulation comprising the comb polymer.
