The engine has a filling unit (1.4E) supplying air via an air duct, where a defined quantity of fuel is supplied to the filling unit or combustion unit (1.4V) via a fuel injector. The combustion unit starts in a region in which a slide valve (1.6) starts combustion of fuel, and ends in a region in which the slide valve ends the combustion. An expansion part (1.4A) has a volume which permits an approximately complete expansion during combustion of gases according to the injected amount of fuel and/or supplied amount of air such that the gases leave the expansion part with an ambient pressure. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an internal combustion engine device.
