The drum (1) has a force increasing medium necessary for a relative movement of a rope (2) opposite to the drum, where the medium is arranged in a region of windings of the rope. The windings remain on the drum in operation of the drum. Wedge shaped grooves (3) are provided for retaining the rope and are inserted in a cylindrical drum body (13). A plastic coating is provided between the rope and the drum, where magnets are provided on the region. A surface of the rope has a material e.g. rubber and plastic, that has a high coefficient of friction in comparison to a normal surface of the drum. An independent claim is also included for a wire rope arranged on a rope drum.
