The machine has a folding knife cylinder (3) with a set of retaining units i.e. bodkin units (19, 21) and folding knifes (23), where the units are distributed at a circumference of the cylinder. The retaining units are arranged between the knifes along a circumferential direction, where the knifes are directly arranged successively along the circumferential direction. A cutting knife cylinder (1) is provided with a cutting knife (9). The folding knife cylinder and the cutting knife cylinder are arranged together such that a material sheet (7) initially runs through between the cylinders.
