The auxiliary joining element (4) made of steel for connecting an aluminum plate (2) with a steel part (3) by resistance welding, comprises a shaft (6) guidable through the aluminum plate and weldable at its free end with the steel part, and a head (8) radially outstanding the shaft. The head lies at a side turned away from the steel part at the plate in a mounted state. A welding electrode is applied at the head. The shaft has a point, in which it is penetratable or extrudable through the plate. The point is formed at the free end of the shaft. The shaft is arranged as the point.
