The method involves rolling up material web together with a section of the material web to a sleeve, where the section is provided in front of a folding edge (23). The material web is separated for conclusion of a rolling process in such a manner that a separated end section (21) of the web is retracted in a winding bed and on a supporting surface (20). An envelope (22) is provided with a part of the end section of the web, and is retracted together with a remaining part of the end section of the web for connection of the sleeve.
