The electronic controller (1) comprises a switching output (4), an emergency signal input (3) and a controller (7) for controlling the switching output. A safety switch (12) is provided for switching the switching output in a safe condition with request of an emergency signal at the emergency signal input. The safety switch is so designed that the switching output is switched into the safe condition independently of the condition of the control unit with the request of the emergency signal.
