The method involves putting a sheet metal plate (1) into a deforming tool (3) and pressing the plate under deformation into a U-shaped profile (13) into a tub-shaped recess (6) of a lower die (4) of the deforming tool. The U-shaped profile is formed between an upper die of the deforming tool and the lower die to a seam tube. Longitudinal folds of the seam tube are joined with one another. The U-shaped profile is provided with patterns (21) during the deformation of the plate. The pattern is formed by flanges (22) stamped into an internal surface (20) of the U-shaped profile.
