The invention relates to a method for determining and monitoring of the theoretical material exhaustion degree of the tubes of heating surfaces with fossil fuel-fired taken in by means of at least one infrared camera. It is provided according to the invention, the walls of the body of the furnace in a number of n - segments and by means of at least one infrared image of the walls of the combustion chamber, a mean surface temperature to determine for each of the segments. In addition, for each of the segments of the incident flow of heat and the useful heat flow is determined. On the basis of the incident heat flux, of the useful heat current and the mean surface temperature is a central tube wall temperature of the tubes of the radiant heating surfaces of the relevant segment is determined. On the basis of the central tube wall temperature over the service life of the tubes can be applied directly a statement on the consumption of the service life of the respective tube hit.
