The method involves installing a software module in a control device (8) of a vehicle (5) when installation conditions with respect to an operating condition parameter of the vehicle are fulfilled. A digital signature for the software module is calculated by using symmetric or asymmetric cryptographic method based on meta information data or program code of the software module. The operating parameter comprises a driving condition of the vehicle, actual position of the vehicle and an actual speed of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a system installing a software module in a control device of a vehicle.
