The device has a developer station (10) for supplying ink from a toner to produce a latent image, and a cleaning unit for cleaning an intermediate carrier of remaining toner. A waste toner-container (44) is supplied with the remaining toner. A filter device (50) filters the toner supplied to the waste toner-container. A return device (54) supplies the filtered toner from the waste toner-container of the developer station, where the return device includes a buffer device (56) that temporarily stores the filtered toner. An independent claim is also included for a method for printing an image pattern on a recording medium.
