The device (1) has a detector (2) for determining a spectral characteristic of an environment light, and a light source (4) having an LED chip (5r) to emit light in a red spectral region. Another LED chip (5g) emits light in a green spectral region, and a third LED chip (5b) emits light in a blue spectral region. A control unit (7) adjusts a spectral characteristic of the light emitted by the light source based on the determined spectral characteristic of the environment light. The characteristic depends on color temperature of the environment light.
