The sweeping machine has a circular broom provided with a drive for rotating around almost vertical axis. The circular broom has a crown of bristles (14) overlapping the lateral contour of the sweeping machine, and are in a conical surface. A deflection element (18) is provided in the crown of bristles for deflecting the bristles in direction of ground away from the conical surface. The deflection element delivers the crown of bristles in area overlapping the contour of the sweeping machine.
