The modular battery unit has two battery cells (1 to 6) and a heat sink (8), which is arranged between the battery cells .The heat sink has a cooling medium flowing through it and transports heat which has developed in the battery cells away in a suitable manner and supports the battery cells. A covering cap (11) is provided for closing the end face of the heat sink. An inlet (16) and an outlet (17) are provided for the cooling medium, where the inlet and/or the outlet of the cooling medium is arranged at the covering caps. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a battery system with multiple modular battery units (2) a method for adapting a battery system in a designed space.
